Historic Tabernacle Baptist Church Legacy Foundation celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the First Mass Meeting of the 1960s Voting Rights Movement, with community outreach and a charity golf tournament. Dr. LaFayette spent May 10th educating 200 students at four different schools in Selma about nonviolence strategy.
On May 11, participants, volunteers, and sponsors united at the Valley Grande Golf Course for the 1st Annual Nonviolence Golf Tournament, including lunch and an awards ceremony, where the two oldest living foot soldiers of the Voting Rights Movement were recognized, along with the winner of the 2023 Youth Nonviolence Award. Tournament proceeds will support efforts to teach students and adults in the community about nonviolence strategy.
